Independence Demolition Expands West to Meet Specialty Client Needs
Cleveland, OH – June 23, 2015 – After nearly four years of supporting specialty demolition and general contracting needs in the Western U.S., Cleveland-based Independence Demolition established a permanent downtown Denver office as a base for its western operations. The firm’s Denver office houses three office staff with a 20-30 person crew, scalable to meet project staffing needs.
Independence Demolition’s long-standing relationships and niche expertise paved its path to the west, according to Donnie DiGeronimo, Vice President of Demolition. “Our specialty clients – including national CM/GC firms like Turner, Whiting-Turner, Gilbane, Hensel Phelps, and others – sought our team to provide a level of service they couldn’t find in the western market. We designed our dynamic, adaptable team to deliver diverse projects that often require fast tracking and challenging coordination, all while being very competitive on our bids,” DiGeronimo stated. Much of this added value is created by Independence Demolition’s customizable suite of services. “We provide full project support – well beyond just regular demolition,” said DiGeronimo. “Our team supports specialized interior and exterior demolition, general contracting work, scrapping, concrete, excavation site grading, foundation removal, and concrete cutting. Our clients also benefit from our seamless integration with our sister company, Precision Environmental, which brings tremendous value for projects in expertise, coordination and pricing.”
To date, Independence Demolition’s support has been instrumental on Western U.S. projects in Colorado, New Mexico, California, South Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho, including Black Hills Energy’s multi-site power plant demolition projects and extensive updating and maintenance work for Evraz Steel’s mill in Pueblo, Colorado. The firm regularly meets 90% its projects’ equipment needs from its 300-plus-piece fleet, a key cost mitigation strategy. Independence Demolition’s equipment fleet is one of the largest and best-maintained fleets among its U.S. competitors.
“In addition to our equipment fleet, Independence Demolition is bringing new value to the Western U.S. with our AGC-recognized safety program – which is the foundation of our company culture and evident in each of our locations,” DiGeronimo remarked. Independence Excavating, the parent firm of Independence Demolition, received its second National AGC Safety Excellence Award – First Place in the Federal and Heavy Division for 700,000 to 1,000,000 hours worked in 2014. Independence Excavating’s Safety Director Tom Steblinski describes the firm’s personalized safety approach: “In my experience outside the firm, [Independence Excavating’s] safety program is unlike most construction companies where safety personnel are office-based, processing workers’ compensation and paperwork. Our safety specialists and coordinators spend 80% of their time in the field developing relationships with the guys doing the work…. The guys understand that we’re here to help them go home safely to their families by abiding by safety regulations, all while helping them do their jobs.”
DiGeronimo indicated that the firm uses its safety program to integrate its new Denver office into its strong company culture. “We are constantly training new staff and invest more resources in the safety program each year. By bringing new staff through our headquarters safety program that has been so successful, we’re able to deploy a fully integrated team to support projects all over the country without compromising our core values.” Its Denver team is comprised of long-term Independence Demolition personnel and locally-hired team members to truly bring the firm’s full value to the Western U.S. The Denver office primarily supports industrial and energy sector clientele, with additional focus on commercial/big building projects, hospitality, medical, and educational facilities.
With offices in Cleveland, Denver, Pittsburgh and Chantilly, and Orlando, Independence Demolition is an industry leader in challenging site development, heavy industrial applications, demolition, environmental solutions, concrete construction, aggregate crushing and one of the Midwest’s premier and diversified construction companies.
