The Black Hills Power - Ben French Power Plant was the final of four (4) power plants that was awarded to Independence Demolition for decommissioning and demolition. All (4) plants required complete environmental decommissioning, demolition, removal and site restoration.
This site specifically included demolition of approximately 2,050 GT of structures and equipment, including a concrete stack and foundations. Active facilities for the Owner remain on this site, including an office building attached to the plant and a maintenance shop located adjacent to the main Power House. The environmental scope of work included asbestos abatement, removal of all universal wastes and fly ash / coal residuals, lead & mercury abatement, and draining of all oils. Final site restoration included fill placement for all site pits and basements and grading.
